Ingredients
Scale
Sweet Potato Fries
- 4 sweet potatoes or yams
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- Kosher salt, to taste
Chipotle Lime Dipping Sauce
- 1 1/4 cups mayonnaise
- 1/2 lime, juiced
- 1 teaspoon ground chipotle powder
- 1/2 teaspoon chili powder
- 1/4 teaspoon paprika
- 1/4 teaspoon cumin
- 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
Instructions
- Prepare the dipping sauce: In a small bowl, combine the mayonnaise, lime juice, ground chipotle powder, chili powder, paprika, cumin, and garlic powder. Mix well until all spices are incorporated. Cover and refrigerate for at least one hour to allow the flavors to meld.
- Preheat the oven: Set your oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit to preheat while you prepare the fries.
- Cut and coat the potatoes: Peel the sweet potatoes if desired and cut them into long sticks resembling fries. Place them in a large Ziploc bag, add just enough vegetable oil to lightly coat all the fries, seal the bag, and toss gently to distribute the oil evenly.
- Bake the fries: Spread the coated sweet potato sticks evenly in a single layer on a cookie sheet. Bake in the preheated oven for 45 minutes, turning occasionally to ensure even browning and crispiness.
- Season and serve: Once baked, remove the fries from the oven and sprinkle with kosher salt to taste. Serve immediately alongside the chilled chipotle lime dipping sauce for dipping.
Notes
- The dipping sauce has a mild smoky kick that complements the natural sweetness of the sweet potato fries perfectly.
- For extra crispiness, you can soak the cut sweet potatoes in cold water for 30 minutes before coating with oil to remove excess starch.
- Use a high smoke point oil like vegetable oil to prevent burning during baking.
- Turn the fries frequently during baking to ensure even cooking and browning on all sides.
- Leftover dipping sauce can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
