Description

This Honey Dijon Garlic Chicken Breasts recipe features tender, juicy chicken baked with a flavorful glaze made from honey, whole grain Dijon mustard, garlic, and butter. It's an easy-to-make, delicious main course perfect for a quick weeknight dinner or special occasion.

Ingredients

Scale

Chicken

  • 4 large boneless skinless chicken breasts, about 6 ounces each
  • pinch salt and pepper
  • pinch salt and pepper

Glaze

  • 3 tbsp butter
  • 6 cloves minced garlic
  • 1/3 cup honey
  • 2 tbsp whole grain Dijon mustard
  • pinch salt and pepper

Instructions

  1. Preheat and prepare the pan: Line an 8x8 inch baking pan with aluminum foil. Use a pan just large enough so there is about a half inch space around each chicken breast but no more to prevent glaze burning. Place the empty pan in a 425 degree F oven to heat while preparing the glaze.
  2. Make the glaze: Melt butter in a small sauté pan over medium heat. Add minced garlic and cook for 30 to 60 seconds until softened but not browned. Stir in honey, whole grain Dijon mustard, and a pinch of salt and pepper. Simmer the mixture for 1 to 2 minutes to begin reducing the glaze.
  3. Prepare the chicken: Lightly season chicken breasts with salt and pepper. Remove the hot baking pan from the oven and arrange chicken breasts evenly spaced in the pan.
  4. Glaze and bake: Pour the warm glaze evenly over the chicken breasts. Return the pan to the 425 degree F oven and bake for 15 minutes.
  5. Baste and continue baking: Remove the pan and baste the chicken with the glaze collected at the bottom. Return to the oven and bake for an additional 15 to 20 minutes or until a meat thermometer inserted into the thickest part of the chicken reads 170 degrees F.
  6. Rest before serving: Remove chicken from oven and let rest for 5 minutes before serving to allow juices to redistribute.

Notes

  • Use a baking pan that snugly fits the chicken to prevent the glaze from burning.
  • Do not let the garlic brown when cooking the glaze to avoid bitterness.
  • Check chicken temperature with a meat thermometer for perfect doneness and juiciness.
  • Letting the chicken rest after baking helps keep it moist.
  • Whole grain Dijon mustard adds texture and a mild tangy flavor; you can substitute with regular Dijon mustard if needed.
