Description

Caprese Skewers are a fresh and easy appetizer featuring juicy cherry tomatoes, creamy mozzarella balls, and fragrant basil leaves drizzled with extra-virgin olive oil and tangy balsamic glaze. Perfect for entertaining, these bite-sized skewers combine classic Italian flavors in a simple, no-cook presentation.

Ingredients

Scale

Skewers

  • 16 to 18 (4-inch) wooden skewers

Main Ingredients

  • 1 pint cherry or grape tomatoes
  • 1 (12-ounce) container miniature cherry-sized fresh mozzarella balls (ciliegine)
  • 1 bunch fresh basil leaves (about 36 leaves)

For Drizzling and Seasoning

  • Extra-virgin olive oil, for drizzling
  • Balsamic glaze, for drizzling
  • Kosher salt, to taste
  • Freshly ground black pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Skewers: Thread each skewer in the following order: 1 cherry tomato, 1 fresh basil leaf (folded in half if large), 1 miniature mozzarella ball, another fresh basil leaf, and end with 1 cherry tomato.
  2. Arrange on Platter: Lay all assembled skewers neatly on a serving platter, making them look inviting and colorful.
  3. Drizzle and Season: Lightly drizzle extra-virgin olive oil and balsamic glaze over the skewers, then sprinkle kosher salt and grind fresh black pepper evenly to enhance the flavors.

Notes

  • Use in-season cherry tomatoes and fresh mozzarella balls for the best flavor and texture.
  • If fresh basil leaves are large, folding them in half makes them easier to skewer and eat.
  • Balsamic glaze can be substituted with balsamic vinegar reduction or a high-quality aged balsamic vinegar for a similar effect.
  • Serve immediately after assembling for the freshest taste and best presentation.
  • For a vegetarian appetizer, this recipe is ideal as is.
