Ingredients
Scale
Main Ingredients
- 3.5 oz dark chocolate (70% cocoa)
- 2 tbsp refined coconut oil
- 2 tbsp orange juice (freshly squeezed)
- ½ tsp orange zest
- 2 tbsp icing sugar (powdered sugar)
- 1 tbsp cocoa powder (plus extra for dusting)
Instructions
- Prepare Chocolate: Chop or break the dark chocolate into small pieces to ensure even melting.
- Melt Chocolate: Place a heatproof bowl over a saucepan of boiling water, making sure the bowl does not touch the water. Add the chopped chocolate to the bowl and stir continuously until it melts completely.
- Add Coconut Oil: Remove the bowl from heat and stir in the refined coconut oil until fully combined and smooth.
- Mix Orange and Sweeteners: Stir in freshly squeezed orange juice, orange zest, icing sugar, and cocoa powder until the mixture is completely smooth and glossy.
- Chill the Mixture: Transfer the mixture to the refrigerator and chill until it becomes firm enough to handle, about 25 minutes. Check regularly to avoid over-chilling.
- Shape the Truffles: Using a small spoon, scoop portions of the chilled mixture and roll into balls between the palms of your hands. To prevent melting, dust your palms with cocoa powder before rolling if your hands are warm. Chill longer if mixture is too sticky.
- Coat the Truffles: Spread cocoa powder on a plate, then roll each truffle in the cocoa powder until evenly coated.
- Store and Serve: Place the truffles in an airtight container and store in the fridge. Serve at room temperature for the best texture and flavor.
Notes
- Use high-quality dark chocolate with at least 70% cocoa for the best flavor intensity.
- Refined coconut oil is preferred as it has a neutral taste; unrefined may impart a coconut flavor.
- Freshly squeezed orange juice and zest provide vibrant citrus notes; avoid bottled juice for best results.
- Keep hands cool and dust with cocoa powder to prevent truffles from melting while shaping.
- Store truffles in an airtight container in the refrigerator to maintain freshness for up to one week.
- For an extra festive touch, consider rolling truffles in finely chopped nuts or desiccated coconut instead of cocoa powder.
