Description

Delight in these rich and vegan chocolate orange hazelnut truffles, featuring a smooth blend of cocoa, orange marmalade, and hazelnuts with a crunchy hazelnut center. Coated in chopped hazelnuts or cocoa powder, these gluten-free treats offer a perfect balance of fruity sweetness and nutty texture, ideal as a sophisticated snack or elegant dessert.

Ingredients

Scale

Truffle Base

  • 1 ½ cups raw hazelnuts
  • ½ cup orange marmalade (fruit sweetened)
  • ¾ cup cocoa powder
  • 3 tbsp maple syrup
  • 2 tsp pure vanilla extract
  • ¼ cup coconut sugar

Coating and Filling

  • ½ cup finely chopped hazelnuts or extra cocoa powder
  • 15-18 whole hazelnuts for center

Instructions

  1. Process Hazelnuts: Place the raw hazelnuts into a food processor and pulse until it forms a fine meal texture.
  2. Combine Ingredients: Add orange marmalade, cocoa powder, maple syrup, and vanilla extract to the hazelnut meal. Process until all the ingredients are well combined and smooth.
  3. Add Coconut Sugar: Add the coconut sugar to the mixture and pulse once more. The mixture should start to ball up slightly, indicating the correct consistency for rolling.
  4. Adjust Consistency: Test the mixture by rolling a small amount into a ball in your hands. If too wet, add a bit more cocoa powder; if too dry, add more maple syrup or marmalade. Process again if needed.
  5. Prepare Coating: Spread chopped hazelnuts or cocoa powder in a shallow bowl for coating the truffles. Line a tray with parchment paper.
  6. Shape Truffles: Using 1-2 tablespoons per portion, scoop the mixture and roll into a ball. Press one whole hazelnut into the center and roll the ball again to enclose it completely.
  7. Coat Truffles: Roll each truffle in the chopped hazelnuts or cocoa powder until fully coated. Place them on the prepared parchment-lined tray.
  8. Chill: Refrigerate the truffles for 30 minutes to firm up before serving.
  9. Store Properly: Keep in a sealed container at room temperature, refrigerated for best texture, or frozen for longer storage.

Notes

  • For a sweeter or tangier flavor, try substituting orange marmalade with other fruit preserves of your choice.
  • If you prefer a smoother coating, use extra cocoa powder instead of chopped hazelnuts.
  • These truffles are vegan, gluten-free, and make a perfect healthy indulgence.
  • Keep refrigerated for the best firmness and texture, especially in warm climates.
  • Use fresh raw hazelnuts for optimal flavor and texture.
